April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. We use the pinwheel as a symbol of hope for the bright futures we want for our children, and as a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives!
In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as a national symbol for child abuse prevention. Pinwheels represent lighthearted play and have become a physical reminder of the positive and wonderful childhoods we want for our children. They catch our eye as they spin and twirl in the breeze and remind us of how important and precious our children are. We have an obligation to protect children and their right to a safe and healthy environment.
